Accreditation for Prior Experiential Learning (APEL)

Acceptance on the course is also subject to satisfactory health and criminal record bureau clearance.

We welcome applications from students who may not have formal/traditional entry criteria but who have relevant experience or the ability to pursue the course successfully.

The accreditation of Prior learning (APL) process could help you to make your work and life experience count.

Applicant profile

You should have relevant experience of working with people along with good communication skills and the ability to demonstrate an understanding of occupational therapy as a profession and the impact that illness and disability may have on a person's life. If you submit a satisfactory application you will be invited for interview. The interview will consist of a face to face interview, a group task and a short written task. You are strongly advised to visit at least two clinical occupational therapy departments before applying in order to be able to demonstrate at application and interview an understanding of occupational therapy and to give examples of occupational therapists working in physical and mental health settings.
