This enables you to develop skills and knowledge that are relevant to the workplace and, more importantly, the needs of your patients.

Full-time

Semester 1

One module from pot 1 and a second module from either pot 1 or pot 2. You will then have completed the PgCert.

Semester 2

A further two modules from either pot 1 or pot 2. You will then have completed the PgDip.

Semester 3

In semester 3, you will complete the dissertation to achieve the full Masters.

Pot 1 - Midwifery

Examination of the Newborn (30 credits)

This module encourages a holistic approach to the care of the neonate by addressing the relevant physiology, pathophysiology, psychological, professional, social and behavioural issues underpinning the 'routine newborn examination'.

Critical Care for Childbirth (30 credits)

Develop specialist knowledge, skills and expertise to meet the needs of neonates who require intensive/emergency care.

Normal Childbirth (30 credits)

This module aims to support and promote normal birth, challenge the medicalisation of birth and increase your confidence to practice autonomously.

Preparation for Mentorship (via e-learning) (30 credits)

Delivered via e-learning this module prepares you to undertake the role of mentor and fulfil the requirements of your professional body.

Pregnancy Aquatics, Nutrition and Health (30 credits)

Gives you a broad understanding of the processes and safe practices associated with planning, implementing and evaluating a pregnancy aquatic session.

Women's Health: From a Local to a Global Perspective (30 credits)

This module analyses women's health issues from feminist perspectives and explores the culture of local, regional, national and international organisations who are key players in women's health care provision.

Pot 2:

Research methods (30 credits)

In this module you will learn about contemporary issues and debates in research, theories/paradigms of research and the ethics of research to help support your dissertation module.

Physics of Ultrasound (30 credits)

Understand and apply the principles of ultrasound image production and recording in a safe manner.

Ultrasound in Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy (30 credits)

Equips you with skills and knowledge in gynaecological and early pregnancy ultrasound

Ultrasound in the Second and Third Trimesters of Pregnancy (30 credits)

Equips you with skills and knowledge in second and third trimester obstetric Ultrasound, including fetal development, anatomy and physiology, screening and diagnostic procedures in obstetrics.

Evidence Based Practice for Patient Care (30 credits)

Develop the knowledge and skills to understand and apply the evidence to your current practice for the benefit of patient care

Leading and Managing in Health Care Organisations (30 credits)

This module covers theories of leadership and management including governance, strategic management and stakeholder engagement.

Leading Change for Patient and/or Service Improvement (30 credits)

Use knowledge and skills and the evidence base to plan for real and sustained change to bring about patient and/or service improvement within your health care organisation.

Project Management and Methods of Inquiry for Health Care Practice (30 credits)

Develop effective project management skills and learn how to justify your business case to bring about patient and/or service improvements.

Screening and Diagnosis (30 credits)

You will learn to develop your own practice within an extended role and be able to reflect upon the strengths and limitations of your service, and the potential for service improvement related to enhancement of your own professional role.

You will also learn to evaluate the role of the Multi-Disciplinary Team and service delivery in relation to the patient journey within the negotiated area.

Work-based Learning for Healthcare Practice (30 credits)

This module provides a framework for you to use work-based learning to bring about significant change in practice and allows you to develop a work-based learning project that demonstrates personal and professional development at Masters level.

Semester 3

Dissertation (60 credits)

Carry out a structured, comprehensive or systemised review of evidence on a particular topic concluding with a robust analysis of implications for implementation in professional practice.

Year 1

In year 1 you will study two modules, one module from pot 1 and a second module from either pot 1 or pot 2. You will then have completed the PgCert.

Year 2

In year 2 you will study a further two modules from either pot 1 or pot 2. You will then have completed the PgDip.

Year 3

In year 3 you will complete the dissertation to achieve the full Masters.
