As a trained language specialist with excellent transferable knowledge and skills you will be able to pursue a really wide range of careers. Some may require additional training or skills, but not all do.

Specific examples of careers where a degree in linguistics is relevant include (but are not limited to):

  • Speech and language therapy
  • Teaching in the primary and/or secondary school sectors
  • Teaching English as a foreign language in the UK and abroad
  • Marketing and advertising
  • Media, publishing, and journalism
  • Automated speech recognition and analysis
  • Artificial intelligence and natural language processing
  • Computer-mediated language learning
  • Working as a language analyst for a governmental organisation

This programme also provides an ideal platform for postgraduate study.

Knowledge of linguistics is also valued by employers who recognise that graduates acquire valuable transferable skills such as excellent verbal and written communication, analysis, research and independent thinking.
