Accreditation for Prior Experiential Learning (APEL)

At the University of Salford we have developed a policy, a process and practices that help you to put  together a claim for entry or credit by matching your current and prior learning against the specific  requirements of a particular course. So if you have no formal qualifications but plenty of experience  in the area you may still be considered for entry to the course.

English Language Requirements

The English language requirement for this course is an IELTS average score of 6.5 or above, and for each component, 5.5 or above. For further information check the international entry requirements for all our courses here: www.salford.ac.uk/study/international/entry-requirements

Applicant profile

We are looking for highly motivated students with a genuine interest in journalism and literature, good written and spoken communication skills, proactive and willing to take advantage of the many opportunities that we offer.

We’ll expect candidates to have engaged in journalism, for example, through a work placement, school magazine or newspaper. Good English and communication skills are vital.

You may also be invited to an interview and asked to undertake a journalism test.

We positively welcome applications from students who may not meet the stated entry criteria but who can demonstrate their ability to successfully pursue a programme of study in higher education. Students who do not have formal entry qualifications are required to sit a written assessment which is designed for this purpose. Support in preparing for the written assessment is available from the University. Please contact Seamus Simpson the Director of Admissions for further information.
