Overall, teaching takes the form of seminars which allow you to apply your critical skills to the discussion of specific translation theories and apply your knowledge to the professional practice of translation and interpreting. And lectures which map the discipline of translation studies and interpreting studies and its main research paradigms. Mock conferences which simulate the professional practice of interpreting are held regularly.
Full-time study requires full –time attendance over a 12 month period (October to September). Part-time study allows students to complete the course over two years. There is no distance learning option for the course.
Assessment
Assessment consists of a combination of coursework and examination, including essays, projects and oral work.
Approximate weightings are:

Staff Profile
Rebecca Tipton - Course Leader: MA/PgDip Interpreting and Translating
Has worked as a freelance translator and interpreter (conference and public service interpreting) and an interpreter trainer (DPSI English law and Local Government).
Main research interests are in interpreting studies, the sociology of interpreting (public service and conference interpreting), the use of interpreters in situations of conflict and interpreter training. Delivered papers at national and international conferences, and has published in a number journals (including peer-reviewed journals) on aspects of public service and conference interpreting.
Representative for the University of Salford in the Routes into Languages National Network for Interpreting, which is funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England and the Department for Children, Schools and Families to promote careers in interpreting and stimulate interest in language learning post 16.
A member of the International Association for Intercultural Studies and has hosted a panel on interpreter training at the third IATIS conference in Monash University, Melbourne, July 2009.
