Course details

The current global financial crisis has made it clear that in this increasingly interdependent world, legal or regulatory failures in one country or over one type of business can have major repercussions across the whole global economy.

The aim of this course is to examine some key areas of law (both hard and soft) that particularly impinge upon international business. The regulation of business has often developed in different ways within different legal jurisdictions and those conducting cross-border business can face conflicting rules. In creating a ‘single market’ within the EU, a major attempt has been made to reduce these conflicts within the continent of Europe, but in many areas, the USA has developed different approaches. A number of the modules look at these differences between Europe and America.

The course aims to equip you with a deep understanding of the context and application of International Business Law and Regulation. Upon successful completion of the course, you will:

  • Have acquired specialised legal knowledge and legal skills in the subject of International Business Law and Regulation
  • Have developed a greater understanding of the nature of law, both generally and within the specific context of the subject matter of International Business Law and Regulation
  • Understand key principles and doctrines in a range of legal subjects related to International Business Law and Regulation
  • Be able to apply a broad range of commercial law issues to multi-jurisdictional settings
  • Understand relevant theoretical perspectives, including those drawn from other disciplines, on the legal and policy issues raised by the subjects studied
