The aim of this course is to provide you with the advanced level skills and knowledge required by 21st century managers of information systems and technology (IS/T).
You will acquire the management and technical knowledge necessary to succeed in an IS/T management role and to be able to make decisions in complex and unpredictable situations.
You will develop a systematic understanding of the context of IS/T in local and global organisations and in society in general; and a critical awareness of current issues in the management of IS/T.
You will also become a reflective practitioner in the IS sphere, capable of critically reflecting on your practice and that of others.
Semester 1
Operations and Information Management
Learn to understand different types of operations, information systems, companies, competitiveness and strategic issues; and gain knowledge of concepts, techniques and models that are used for planning, managing and improving operations and management information systems within manufacturing and service organisations in a global context.

Information Systems
Develop a theoretical, practical and systemic understanding of the needs of organisations when strategically planning, re-engineering, and integrating information systems aligned with business. You will gain a holistic knowledge of the critical role of IS/T both at corporate and business level so you are ready to provide capability in professional, ethical and legal issues for IS/T implementation at functional levels of the business.

Project Management, Leadership and Skills Planning and Control
Gain an understanding of the approaches, skills and methods of project management and the tools and techniques of planning, control, teamwork, leadership and other processes in order to develop your ability to lead complex projects.

Information Architecture and Ecommerce
Gain both a theoretical understanding and practical skills in information architecture and eCommerce in modern business organisations. You will understand the links between business and digital strategies, supported by a flexible and appropriate information architecture.

Semester 3
Business Innovation Project
Choose one from:
- Six Month Work Placement: an integrated period of work-based learning in a suitable organisation, as agreed by Salford Business School
- Assessed Internship: a one-to-three month monitored work or service/volunteer experience agreed by Salford Business School, in which you will have specified learning goals and will need to actively reflect on what is being learned throughout the experience
- Live Project: work as part of a team on a project provided by a UK or international business organisation. The allocation of teams and responsibilities will be dependent on the type of organisation
- Dissertation: a conventional dissertation of 12,000 to 15,000 words, consisting of research question, aims and objectives, rationale for undertaking the study, literature review, research methodology, analysis of findings, conclusions and recommendations
