Accreditation for Prior Experiential Learning (APEL)

We welcome applications from students who may not have formal/traditional entry criteria but who have relevant experience or the ability to pursue the course successfully.

The Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) process could help you to make your work and life experience count. The APL process can be used for entry onto courses or to give you exemptions from parts of your course.

Two forms of APL may be used for entry: the Accreditation of Prior Certificated Learning (APCL) or the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).

English Language Requirements

International applicants will be required to show a proficiency in English. An IELTS score of 6.5 (with no band below 5.5) as proof of this.

Suitable For

Students come from a range of backgrounds with relevant practical experience from both arts and science backgrounds. For the artist, this course offers the opportunity for you to expand your technical language and skill base and for the science based graduate you will expand your creative skills and working methodologies. By the end of the course you will have a clear sense of your own practice and how this can be employed across a range of work settings.

Applicant profile

You will be an inquisitive and experimental inter-disciplinarian who understands the need for us to develop new ways of working to develop new knowledge. You will be both self-motivated and enjoy working in multi-discipline creative teams, willing to take risks, learn new communication methods and break new ground. On entry to this course you will be required to apply with a research project proposal that will form the starting point for the course. You will not be expected to have a clear end point in mind but to use your time on the course in a safe experimental environment where you can test your ideas to the full. You will be asked to apply with a portfolio of your practice. This could be submitted on CD, DVD, or web-based. Candidates will be interviewed either in person or through internet communication systems.
