This is a broad interdisciplinary practice-based course that reflects the growing need to employ creative devising and design methods to a range of work modes, from traditional theatre settings to interactive cinema, the human-computer interface, pervasive media and creative media.

This course has been developed as a direct response to our need to take a more expansive view of the relationship of the performer and developing technologies; in particular, but not exclusively, the human-to-digital technology interface. Through this course you will develop the ability to think dynamically and creatively, and act originally, working through theoretical concepts and creative practice.

The modular structure reflects the practice as research focus for the course which is supported by the critical and historical issues of liveness; the impact of new technologies on human performance, performativity, digital revolution and the need for new paradigms of performance. You will learn to utilise both traditional and unconventional research methodologies, becoming increasingly independent as the course progresses. You will learn and develop through both group and individual learning paths and will engage with a wide range of experts from the fields of performance, media and science.
