Graduate Certificate Counselling

  • Part-time study available

This course provides a solid introduction to counselling skills and will be particularly relevant to graduates already working in areas such as education, health, social services and the voluntary sector.

A typical session at the University will have tutors introducing aspects of counselling theory or modelling particular skills. You will then have a chance to practice these skills with each other, either in pairs or small groups, often using audio equipment to record and review your work. These sessions provide an opportunity for you to develop an understanding of counselling theory and to put that theory into practice under the direction of skilled practitioners. We also encourage you to apply psychological principles to your own experience and consequently gain more insight into yourself. There is ample opportunity to learn from interactions with other students through the personal growth groups.
