If you are starting a career in construction and property, returning to education or wishing to progress within the industry, then this course is for you. You will study a wide range of construction related topics, with options in specialist areas, in preparation for employment or further study in a particular field.
This course recognises the general requirements of a range of construction-related vocations and covers the technical and practical aspects required to satisfy the needs of the market.
If you complete this course at an appropriate level, you will be able to progress on to one of our Built Environment degree courses.
Course details
You will study a range of modules which will develop your professional and technical competencies as well as your presentation, communication and interpersonal skills. As well as learning the scientific and technological aspects of construction and property, you will gain knowledge about the practicalities and legalities involved in constructing, managing and maintaining a site. You will also learn about financial aspects such as tendering, estimating and property valuation.
Course Structure
The full-time and part-time courses allow students with little or no knowledge of construction to explore a wide range of technologies and techniques employed in the construction process. Completion of the HNC qualification allows advanced entry to the following programmes:
- Quantity Surveying
- Building Surveying
- Construction Project Management
- Architectural Design and Technology
The HNC qualification also satisfies the requirements for membership of professional institutes (at the appropriate level).
Year 2
Year-long modules (taught semester 1 and semester 2)
- Building Services (20 credits)
- Management in Construction (20 credits)
- Project(20 credits)
