Alumni Profile
Stephen Marshall
"I moved onto higher education studying the BSc (Hons) Computer and Video Games degree at the University of Salford, graduating with First class honours. I then made the decision to work at SmashMouth Games. The prospect of learning at a professional level was something that I was really looking forward to. I wanted to put to practice the years of training and tuition that I had gone through. Having been here for over a year and a half now, and with one product released, I can see that the hard work, not only at SmashMouth but in education, has paid off. I can’t wait to see what other exciting products we will develop, and I look forward to moving into a lead art role sometime in the future. Without SmashMouth, I would not have gained the professional knowledge I now demonstrate on a daily basis.”
Industry Links
Academics from this course have worked with several companies over the past decade to enrich the student experience with live briefs and placement opportunities. The course involves industry partners on several levels ranging from guest lecturers, live briefs and placement opportunities. For example Smashmouth Games has regularly provided students with the opportunity to work on commercial products during and after study.
Smashmouth Games Managing Director Zuby Ahmed, who is also a part-time lecturer on the course, said: “We’re delighted with the opportunity to work with the University and its students. We believe it’s absolutely vital for the games industry to forge credible links with academic institutions. It’s these very students who will become the game developers of tomorrow, and Smashmouth Games is proud to facilitate this and develop future opportunities.”
