You will gain a strong and in-depth knowledge and understanding of what young people want to watch and why. You will also acquire a confidence and an ability to apply your knowledge and awareness to the production of creative content for children and young people.
You will develop a thorough awareness of what children's content demands and is looking for while at the same time you will be expected and encouraged to develop your own creative ideas. You will then learn how to turn these ideas into material for children and young people.
You will develop an understanding of the wider media industry with particular emphasis and focus on children's creative content and production.
Semester 1
Core module
Creative Development Project (30 credits)
This module will enable you to develop ideas and proposals for production working in teams and closely with the course tutor to deliver your production in the most appropriate way.

Producing (30 credits)
Examining the role of the producer within programme-making and considering the logistics of any production undertaken including health and safety, child protection, risk assessment, compliance, editorial guidelines, the legalities of producing and the complexities of production.

Post Production (30 credits)
A practice based module examining editing and post-production techniques including audio and visual effects.

Semester 2
Core module
Collaborative Project(60 credits)
This will allow students from across the six media MA courses to work together in teams and collaborate on projects. Each of the teams and the projects will go through a pitching process that forms a part of the module assessment.

Optional modules
Entertaining Children and Young People(30 credits)
This module looks at how young people and children are entertained and learn, and considers what it is they want and need to watch and have access to. Understanding young people is key to making programmes for them and through this module you will develop a greater insight into what it is that young people and children do find entertaining and why they watch what they watch.

Advanced Production Techniques (30 credits)
Developing camera skills and techniques for both documentary and fiction, this module will allow you to gain greater experience through self shooting on a variety of cameras used within the department.

Advanced Post-production Techniques(30 credits)
Developing advanced editing techniques and narrative form.

Semester 3
Research Practice Project (30 credits)
Development of your own project where learning will be predominantly self-directed and independent. Tutorial guidance will offer formative feedback and will be provided on each component as these are developed throughout the module. Projects will be of an advanced nature and will relate to either professional or personal subjects of interest.
