You will appreciate the application of microeconomic theory to issues and problems such as the decision making of individuals, households and firms, strategic behaviour and market failures. You will learn to use microeconomic theory to analyse some specific problems and gain insight regarding their cause.

In this module you will develop an appreciation of how the impacts of macroeconomic policy can be understood through the use of relevant models.

Building on Year 1 Accounting module, the module develops your understanding of how accounting information can be used by management to plan and control the activities of the organisation. It also gives an appreciation of other uses of accounting information, including an introduction to the Stock Exchange and the City, and the audit process.

In this module you will acquire an organisation-wide perspective through exploring strategic planning and processes, and learn to relate strategic models and theories to the real world of organisational success and failure. You will develop your analytical and evaluative skills through problem/case analysis and develop your team working and problem-solving skills to evaluate objectively your peers' performance.

The module will acquaint you with some of the major monetary concepts, relationships and models, and use these to analyse monetary markets and the links between money and the real economy. It will also provide an understanding of the role of money in the international economy, under different exchange rate systems.

You will learn to use expected utility theory to analyse problems of decision making under uncertainty and identify the limitations of expected utility theory. You will also apply game theory to predict outcomes in a variety of situations and assess the usefulness of game-theoretic approaches. You will analyse static, sequential and repeated games with complete and incomplete information and critically evaluate the usefulness of game theory in economic analysis.

The aim of this module is to explore both the technical and business-related implications of electronically mediated commerce. With a basis in research, the module traces the development of electronic commerce from its origins in electronic data interchange to its current growing importance in the context of the global market. The potential of electronic commerce for future development – its myths and trends – is also explored.

You will develop knowledge of and an ability to evaluate risk management in an international context and learn to appreciate the history of foreign exchange markets and international finance within the context of finance and economic theory.

In this module you will discuss the impact of factors such as price and availability on the demand of a range of gambling products, and appreciate debates in the lottery industry on what drives demand and how any claimed trends in sales may be managed. You will discuss the benefits and costs of the gambling sector, evaluate the debate on legalisation of casino gambling from an economic perspective; and learn to explain key issues raised by analysts of how betting markets function.
