This course is designed to equip you with the business knowledge and skills needed in today's global economy and provides a general business education that will prepare students for a wide variety of managerial careers.
It will prepare you for a variety of employment opportunities in major areas of business. A carefully designed and employer-supported management development programme runs through the first year of your degree.
All Honours students study the same modules in the first year of the course. Business with Economics students study a slightly different set of modules in the second year. Final year modules are different according to your selected stream.
This course allows you to either specialise or follow an integrated route and the modular design gives you considerable choice.
The second year introduces more of a focus on Business with Economics.
You can confirm your original choice of degree or change freely to any of the other degrees in the suite. You may wish to study a range of modules covering a number of major management functions.

The module introduces you to the principles of marketing in a business and management context, focusing on the role of marketing within the organisation and its interaction with other business functions. The module also helps you to develop practical marketing abilities.

Quantitative and Statistical Analysis
You will examine the relevant mathematical aspects of economic analysis that are important for a full appreciation of analytical and quantitative economics.

Microeconomics
You will appreciate the application of microeconomic theory to issues and problems such as the decision making of individuals, households and firms, strategic behaviour and market failures. You will learn to use microeconomic theory to analyse some specific problems and gain insight regarding their cause.

Building on Year 1 Accounting module, the module develops your understanding of how accounting information can be used by management to plan and control the activities of the organisation. It also gives an appreciation of other uses of accounting information, including an introduction to the Stock Exchange and the City, and the audit process.

Corporate Strategy
In this module you will acquire an organisation-wide perspective through exploring strategic planning and processes, and learn to relate strategic models and theories to the real world of organisational success and failure. You will develop your analytical and evaluative skills through problem/case analysis and develop your team working and problem-solving skills to evaluate objectively your peers' performance.

Management Practice and Research: Dissertation
You will identify and focus on a specialist area of research related to an aspect of your degree course; execute a substantial piece of independent research and produce a scholarly and critical dissertation.

Domestic and International Money
The module will acquaint you with some of the major monetary concepts, relationships and models, and use these to analyse monetary markets and the links between money and the real economy. It will also provide an understanding of the role of money in the international economy, under different exchange rate systems.

Strategy and Risk
You will learn to use expected utility theory to analyse problems of decision making under uncertainty and identify the limitations of expected utility theory. You will also apply game theory to predict outcomes in a variety of situations and assess the usefulness of game-theoretic approaches. You will analyse static, sequential and repeated games with complete and incomplete information and critically evaluate the usefulness of game theory in economic analysis.
