This course has been designed in collaboration with our partners in business, industry and the public sector and is inspired by leading-edge information systems research.
The course is concerned with the management of information in organisations through an understanding of systems concepts, communications and information technologies. It develops an understanding of the relationships between business organisations, information and technology, and also between individuals and groups within an organisation.
BIT graduates will have a sound understanding of information technology and business. Possessing strong technical skills, graduates will be well equipped to lead and contribute to the development, deployment and integration of IT solutions in a variety of organisational settings.
This is a three year full-time undergraduate honours degree with the option to undertake a fourth year as a paid placement. Each academic year commences in September. All modules run through both semesters of the academic year.
YEAR 1 - Level 4
Principles of Marketing
This module aims to provide an introduction to key foundational aspects of the theory and practice of marketing, which are essential to the long term prosperity of organisations and applicable to all specialisations within business. It will enable students to apply marketing principles to real life marketing situations.

Principles of Accounting
The aim of the module is to provide students with a theoretical and practical introduction to Accounting, This module will help students understand the fundamentals of basic accounting methods. It will introduce students to the production of financial statements for decision makers in various organizational structures.

Principles of HRM
This module will provide an insight into the distinct contribution of Human Resource Management policy and practice to employee and organisational performance and success within a UK and international comparative context. It will help students develop an understanding of the interrelationship between the dynamic nature of social relationships within a range of organisations, the broader external environment, and the effective management of human resources and employment relations.

Principles of Systems Development
This module will introduce the key principles relating to the development of robust, reusable and appropriate information systems. It will introduce the Systems Development Lifecycle to students and the Principles of Systems Analysis. On top of this students will be introduced to the development of web-based software artifacts and their integration with existing popular web-based systems such as blogging, micro-blogging and other contemporary social media.

Principles of Economics
The aim of this module is to introduce students to key concepts in modern economics, in particular the functioning of markets as the foundation of contemporary economies; It will present an overview of the main microeconomic principles of economic behaviour and the main concepts within macroeconomics, and to explore the relationship between these microeconomic principles and macroeconomic concepts.

Business Statistics
This module enables students to present, evaluate and interpret quantitative data in order to develop a capacity for making business decisions. It will introduce students to the mathematical prerequisites for developing lines of argument and making sound judgments, It will help students to develop an awareness of established mathematical and statistical techniques to initiate and undertake critical analysis of information and propose appropriate solutions to business problems.

YEAR 2 – Level 5
Entrepreneurial Project
This module will develop a student’s ability to initiate, implement, review and appraise management objectives and decisions within the context of a dynamic, competitive market environment. It will help to develop an understanding of the complex interactions that characterise decision-making in organisation, and consequently the importance of thinking beyond a single functional perspective.

Professional Development
Building on the embedded skills developed during level 4 of the programme the module aims to enable the student to plan and carry out appropriate professional development activities to increase employability and performance, including self presentation, professional networking, project planning and implementation, team working, influencing and multimedia communication. The module aims to equip the student with the experience required to position themselves in the global employment marketplace.

People and Computing
This module will help students to develop an understanding of the deployment, taxonomy, theory and practice of human-computer interaction and interactive systems. It will provide an appreciation of the technology's impact on the use of computer systems in organisations and society in general.
It will also help students to develop a critical awareness of the relationship between design practice and user experience, together with the opportunity for exploration of methods which situate the user experience centrally within the design and development processes.

Project Management
This module will help students to develop knowledge and critical understanding of the principles of effective project management within a global business context and the ways in which these principles have developed. It will help to facilitate and understanding of project management skills techniques, methods and tools and their application and limitations.

Law in a Business Context
To introduce students to the operation of legal systems in the global business context and the areas of law that underpin the practice of effective business management. Students will develop a working knowledge of the law relating to contracts in different business contexts and their effective negotiation.

Mobile Application Development
Students will learn to create robust, reliable and appropriate cross platform mobile applications. Students will also develop an understanding and skills in the evaluation, design, development and testing of dynamic mobile applications and dynamic web pages. Students will also develop and understanding of key technologies required for cross-platform mobile application such as CSS, JQuery and HTML5.

OPTIONAL YEAR
On completion of year 2 you may choose to undertake either a paid placement, or study abroad for a year. If you choose to study abroad you will spend your academic year at one of our partner universities, enhancing your language skills and international business knowledge.
YEAR 3 – Level 6
Business Ethics and Sustainability
This module equips students with an appreciation and in-depth understanding of the implications of Business Ethics, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainability within national and international organisations. This module will also develop students’ knowledge with respect to the importance of the balance between shareholders, stakeholders and the purpose and values of the organisation. It will explore the roles of social and technological innovation in global ethical organisations in order to prepare students for future employability.

Bit Project 1
This module will allow the student to scope and define a research project, related to an aspect of the degree programme. This must include original work of a practical or research nature. It will encourage a systematic understanding of knowledge, and a critical awareness of current problems and/or new insights in the area of Business Information Technology research, much of which is at, or informed by, the forefront of their field of study. This module also provides the student to research and analyse current practice and explore innovations in their field of study.

eCommerce, Consulting and Practice
This module will explore both the technical and business implications of electronically mediated commerce. It will develop, utilize and respond to market intelligence from search engine optimization (SEO) social media marketing and other sources of business intelligence. It critically addresses the issues surrounding the creation of high quality web-based applications.

Strategic Management
Student’s will acquire an organization-wide perspective through exploring strategy techniques and processes within the global environment. It prepares students for a career in business and management and to develop the next generation manager. It allow students to apply the knowledge and understanding of strategy to a variety of real-world organizations and helps students ability to deploy accurately established techniques of analysis and enquiry, some of which are at the forefront of strategic research and practice.

BIT Project 2
This module allows the student to implement a previously defined project, related to an aspect of the degree programme, in depth and produce a scholarly and critical report as a result. This must include original work of a practical or research nature. It will provide the opportunity for the students to demonstrate synthesis of information, ideas and practices, in the development of an innovative and creative solution together with an evaluation of that solution.

Business Innovation with Digital Technology
To develop critical awareness and the capability to analyse the impact of digital technologies on businesses and other organizations. To acquaint the student with both the underlying concepts which underpin digital technologies, in addition to contemporary issues in the rapidly changing areas of IS/IT Practice, research and development, in order to enable critical appraisal of a range of technologies.
