Oluwaseyi Shorinola

2012 Graduate (Currently studying for a PhD at the John Innes Centre, UK)

Studying at the University of Salford was a major turning point in my academic pursuit. As a young graduate from Nigeria, I was passionate to learn about the genetic control of important traits in crops but I was incapacitated by my lack of knowledge of molecular biology and biotechnology. However, enrolling in the MSc Biotechnology programme in the University of Salford changed that.  Within the one year of my master’s programme, I was transformed from being a novice to being confident in using my knowledge of molecular biology to address important global biological problems. It was definitely a year to remember for me especially because the experiences gathered in the programme helped me to gain a PhD scholarship in one of the best plant science institutes in the world, even while still studying at Salford. All this was made possible by the broad curriculum of Salford programmes, the variety of teaching methods and the expertise and hospitality of the teaching staff.  Also, as a truly international university, Salford provided a multicultural and friendly environment to meet and interact with students from all over the world. I am glad I chose Salford and I recommend it to anyone who aims for world class education.
