Career Prospects
The sports science and exercise market is currently one of the key growth areas in the UK. The Human Performance pathway opens up a wide range of career opportunities in areas including sports science support, sports development, health and fitness, coaching, teaching, postgraduate study and research. The Strength and Conditioning pathway can lead to a number of opportunities for employment as a strength and conditioning coach or internships at the English Institute of Sport, which have noticeably increased in the last few years.
Previous students have gone onto work for Quintic Consultancy, Manchester City Football Club, Fitness First, Salford City Reds Rugby League Football Club and Robert Gordon University Aberdeen as a Lecturer in Biomechanics. Progression routes onto postgraduate study are also available.

John McMahon is a former marine who graduated with a first class honours degree in Applied Sports Science in July 2010. During his time on the course John took advantage of the University’s links and gained work experience in providing strength and conditioning support at the English Institute of Sport on a part-time basis. This experience helped John attain UKSCA accreditation soon after graduation. In addition, to gaining experience John also presented two posters at the BASES annual conference in 2009 and International Society of Biomechanics in Sport conference in 2010. John is now a PhD candidate at the University of Salford.
