FdSc Applied Microbiology

  • Part-time study available
  • International students can apply
  • Work placement opportunity

It is anticipated that the majority of students on the course will already be employed in an area relevant to the Foundation degree, and that the provision for work-based learning will be negotiated between you, your tutor and your employer. If you do not fall into this category, local and regional employers have been consulted and commitment to provide work placements has been secured from a number of companies.

You will be taught at both St Helens College and the University of Salford through:

  • lectures
  • tutorials
  • laboratory practicals
  • seminars (including research activity, discussion, presentations, question and answer sessions)
  • portfolio production and workshops (including data analysis workshops)
  • independent and student centred learning
  • problem-based learning

Assessment

Your assessment is based on a combination of exams and coursework throughout. Some of the modules are assessed by coursework alone (Research Techniques, Learning at Work, Personal Academic Development) and others by both coursework and exams. (50% coursework and 50% examination
