For direct entry to the MA Animation, your first degree must include an appropriate amount of media production, technology and design.

You should have a 2:1 honours degree or appropriate industry experience. IELTS English Language competence of a qualification of 6.5 or better has to be demonstrated by applicants who are not native English speakers.

The School particularly welcomes students from overseas and students aged 21 or over, who, in lieu of formal academic qualifications, have the relevant experience (through either industrial expertise or artistic practice) and can demonstrate the necessary motivation, knowledge and potential to follow the course successfully. Non-standard entry for applicants with appropriate experience is via the University AP(E)L procedure.

English Language Requirements

International applicants will be required to show a proficiency in English. An IELTS score of 6.0 (no element below 5.5) is proof of this.

Applicant profile

Applicants should have appropriate industry experience and the ability to demonstrate a high level of familiarity with a range of traditional and digital animation as well as some expertise in at least one of the following areas:

  • Traditional animation production
  • Digital animation production
  • Narrative and storyboarding
  • 2D/3D character design and production
  • Special effects and compositing
  • Animation history and analysis

You will be expected to show a portfolio of creative work at an interview.
