The aim of this course is to offer you the opportunity to develop skills and a creative understanding of animation production, together with a critical understanding of 3D animation systems and technologies. You will also have the opportunity to create projects with other MA students studying across the range of creative MA specialisms in the Collaborative Project module.
Structure
Semester 1 Core Module
Creative Development Project (30 credits)
During this module you will critique a body of work and deploy creative and innovative strategies in the development of project ideas for animation. You will also formulate creative and innovative techniques and approaches relevant to the area of study and demonstrate an advanced understanding of production roles and their relationship to the creative development of ideas in the context of animation. You will utilise appropriate technology towards delivering a high standard of product suitable for distribution and exhibition. A strong focus is placed on communicating and integrating constructively and in a professional and pro-active manner with others in groups and production teams.

Post Production Practice and Theory (30 credits)
The syllabus will examine and analyse classical, current and future workflows for post production in film and television. Critical and reflective analysis of past to current workflows will give insight into how development trends will shape the future of post production workflows both technologically and economically.

Producing (30 credits)
Structured into two parts, the editorial role of the producer and media law. The module will be responsive to current trends and practices within the industry and attention given to the impact of the changing landscape on the role of the producer.

Semester 2 Core Module
Collaborative Project (30 credits)
In this module you will create an understanding of your specialist area of production and its relationship to other specialist areas through production practice and critical self reflection. You will plan, execute and critically reflect on the quality of a programme that has been collaboratively generated from audio and video students on the course.

Create through character creation practice and critical reflection an understanding of your specialist area of character development and production.

Advanced Production Practices and Techniques (30 credits)
The module is built around workshops in which you develop skills through applied theory and practical work. You will work with such elements as specialist camera techniques, the challenges of sound recording and post-dubbing and post production techniques.

Advanced Post Production Practices and Techniques (30 credits)
The syllabus will explore classical, current and future workflows for video post production in film and television. You will develop the creative and technical skills necessary to work within modern post production environments across a range of media industries.

Advanced Audio Post Production Practices and Techniques (30 credits)
The syllabus will explore classical, current and future workflows for audio post production in film and television. This will involve an in-depth analysis of the role of sound design in contemporary media production. Through critical and reflective analysis of past to current workflows, the module will identify the techniques and practices that constitute modern sound design both technologically and economically.

Semester 3
Practice Research Project (60 credits)
In this module you will define independent projects, employ appropriate research methodologies, and engage appropriate production resources. You will also undertake various forms of research skills appropriate to the programme of study. You will demonstrate an ability to manage the time, human and financial resources required to produce a project and use creative techniques appropriate to current professional and industry practice to solve complex problems.
