Entry requirements
A good, relevant honours degree or equivalent.
Applicants should be a native speaker (or equivalent standard) of English or of the language studied.
Please note that native speakers of a language other than English must provide evidence of their proficiency in English.
We welcome applications from students with non-traditional qualifications and/or significant relevant experience, subject to approval through a process of Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL).

Who is the programme for?
Students planning careers as translators in international business, or seeking to gain high-level translating skills applied to the business context. It is aimed at speakers of English and either Chinese, French, German, Greek, Italian, Polish, Spanish or Turkish who intend to work in translation companies and departments in the UK, abroad, in international organisations or the freelance sect
Programme content
This programme is designed to meet the needs for highly trained translators in today's international marketplace. In addition to core and elective modules (please see programme structure), you will also attend keynote lectures and seminars on specialised translation and business practice, delivered by invited professionals in the field. Topics and documents relate to fields covered in professional translation, such as economics, transport, telecommunications, medicine and international organisations.
The School also helps to organise training placements in the UK or other EU countries in a translation environment.

Assessment
Assessment for the taught component of the programme is based on a combination of coursework assignments and examinations. Students who succesfully complete this stage of the programme will be eligible to receive a Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip). To complete the programme to MA level this is then followed by a dissertation of approximately 15,000 words which is written in English and prepared over the summer.
Career progression
Graduates can expect to pursue careers as translators, either freelance or in a translation department or company and as highly specialised linguists in an international business environment. Some may take up academic posts teaching translation at university level.

Postgraduate Excellence Scholarships
The School will be offering eight Postgraduate Excellence Scholarships of £1000 for use towards the payment of fees in the first year of study on the relevant programme. Postgraduate Excellence Scholarships are awarded in open competition to the eight most academically qualified self-sponsored students UK/EU applicants.
Postgraduate Fee Reduction for School of Languages Graduates
UK/EU graduates of the School of Languages at the University of Salford who have achieved a 2i or first class honours in their undergraduate studies will be offered a £750 reduction in the postgraduate fees on School of Languages' programmes, where they have not been awarded a Postgraduate Excellence Scholarship.

International Excellence Scholarships
If you are applying for a postgraduate course you will automatically be considered for an International Excellence Scholarship worth up to £2000.
