Biography

I graduated from Salford in 1993 with a B.Eng in Electro-acoustics.  After a period in industry I returned to postgraduate study at Salford and was awarded a PhD in the area of active control of low-frequency room modes in 2000.

Teaching

I teach acoustics, electro-acoustics, signal processing, psychoacoustics, speech technology and noise control.  I am course tutor for taught MSc courses in acoustics based in engineering maths, which currently comprise the pathways ‘audio acoustics’ and ‘environmental acoustics’.

Research Interests

I am active in electro-acoustics research, mostly concerning the application of small transducers to communications products.  I am active in hearing-protector and headphone research.  Most of my projects are in collaboration with industry and I undertakes frequent consultancies, where my experience in acoustic product design has led to work in related fields such as vibration- and noise-reduced power tools, and fire-alarm sounders.

Qualifications and Memberships

I am a member of the Institute of Acoustics.
