Now you’ve received an offer from us, we want to help you prepare for the exciting time ahead of you at university. We can offer you support to help you engage in all aspects of university life...
Support can mean different things to different people – and may be broader than you think.
If you experience a physical or sensory disability, medical condition, mental health condition (diagnosed or undiagnosed), or specific learning difficulty such as Dyslexia or Dyspraxia. In fact if you experience any disability or condition which has a significant impact upon your day to day life and/or ability to study, you may want to tell us about this so that we can discuss the support available to you.
You can access support through both Disability and Learner Support and/or Wellbeing and Counselling. Our Disability Advisers can meet with you to discuss the expectations of your programme and the range of support that may be available. You may be also eligible for support funded through Disabled Student Allowance (DSA), which we can discuss with you.
Our Wellbeing Advisers can meet with you and assess any emotional or mental health support you may need to be in place, including transferring any current support you are receiving to local services or accessing counselling. It may be beneficial for you to meet with both our Disability and Learner Support and Counselling and Wellbeing teams.
The first step is arranging an appointment. You do not need to wait until September for this, appointments are available throughout the summer. If you’re not able to attend a face-to-face appointment, we may be able to organise a telephone appointment. We’d advise that you start the process as soon as possible. Previous students tell us that getting support in place early has really helped them to enjoy and succeed in their studies. We are here to guide you through each step, our waiting times at the beginning of the academic year can be fairly long – so please don’t delay in contacting us, there is so much we can do now to support you before arrival.
When we meet with you, we will discuss with you who it may be beneficial to share your information with and for what purpose. Please be assured that information is only shared with your consent, unless there is a risk to yourselves or others, in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
No question is too small or insignificant to us – if there is something that will make a difference to your studies, please let us know and we will try to help in any way that we can.
