Achilles Tendon Injuries
The Achilles Tendinopathy Clinic is dedicated to the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of tendon injuries based in the Podiatry and Sports Injury Clinic. Its unique, multidisciplinary approach to the assessment and treatment of tendon injuries will give you, clear and objective information about the causes of your Achilles tendon injuries and potential pathways to rehabilitation.
The aim is to create a patient database to align evidence-based clinical injury management with objective lab based measures for people with tendonopathies as well as providing vital “at risk” information for healthy populations.
Why should I come to the clinic?
We are unique in the UK in offering a combination of clinical and research activities, and the only expert service that examines this breadth and depth of information about tendon health.
What can I expect?
- Full orthopaedic and clinical assessment
- Podiatric assessment, including a treadmill video analysis
- Orthotics (shoe inserts) if needed
- Guided rehabilitation
Research
Patients that meet the inclusion criteria will be invited into the research study to investigate the pathogenesis of Achilles tendon injury, this will include:
- Biomechanical assessment in the gait laboratory, utilising motion analysis and force analysis
- An ultrasound scan of your tendon
- A measurement of the mechanical properties of your tendon
What happens next?
Utilising the information from our clinical assessments, we will give you a referral to our Sports Injury and Rehabilitation clinic as appropriate.
If the biomechanical analysis highlighted that you need orthotic correction to help support your foot and control the movement of your lower limb, then this will be provided after the initial assessment.
Why are we doing this and what will we do with the data?
If you consent to take part in these research clinics, we will use your anonymous information to form a rich database that will be used to provide clearer answers about the assessment and treatment of tendon problems.
This will help to develop a more effective complete multidisciplinary approach to both assessment and treatment of tendinopathies that is underpinned by research-based evidence.
How much will it cost?
Full assessment is £130 including orthotics, £90 without orthotics
Where is the clinic?
The clinic is based within the Podiatry clinic, on the Fredrick Road Campus.
