The College of Arts & Social Sciences comprises of two Schools:
School of Arts & Media
The School of Arts & Media offers a wide spectrum of undergraduate and postgraduate courses which prepare students for rewarding careers in the creative arts and digital media industries.
Our arts courses specialise in the areas of fashion, graphics, photography, visual arts, interior design and product design. Courses are developed in partnership with prominent industry figures using innovative teaching methods, with access to outstanding facilities. We offer an exciting and stimulating environment in which to study and develop professionally, equipping students with the kinds of skills and experience that are highly sought after by graduate recruiters.
Our media and performance courses specialise in creative media, journalism, communications, music and performance. Students will enjoy opportunities to collaborate with some of the most innovative and creative minds in the industry today through our partnerships with businesses working at the forefront of the creative and digital media sectors.
In particular, our media and journalism programmes are delivered from MediaCityUK, where the University has a presence alongside the BBC, ITV, the Daily Telegraph and other multimedia organisations.
The School has an outstanding reputation for a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses delivered together with research which is ‘world-leading’ and ‘internationally excellent.’
School of Humanities, Languages & Social Sciences
The School offers a range of taught courses and engages in cutting-edge research across the disciplines of English, modern languages, politics & contemporary history and sociology & criminology.
The School prides itself on its multi-disciplinary approach to teaching, meaning that students benefit from the opportunity to tailor their learning to their interests and career aspirations.

Links with institutions around the world mean that our students can take part in international exchange programmes and work placements in countries including France, Germany, Spain, China, Egypt, Sweden, Finland, Cyprus, Canada, Australia and USA.

Our curriculum is supported by state-of-the-art facilities, including our Language Resource Centre, conference interpreting suite and video and audio facilities.
