Location

The University’s main campus is situated on the banks of the River Irwell and is located just over a mile (three kilometres) to the west of Manchester’s cosmopolitan city centre and MediaCityUK. Its location, close to an extensive network of roads and railways, makes it ideal for travel from all parts of the country.

Manchester International Airport is less than 15 miles from the campus with a direct rail link to Salford Crescent Railway Station. This is a main line station with services from Scotland, Blackpool and the Lancashire Coast, Derbyshire and the Peak District as well as Manchester City Centre, only 5 minutes away. Shopping

A host of shops can be found in Manchester city centre with the Arndale Centre's high street names, King Street's designer shops to the handmade bespoke wares of Manchester Craft and Design Centre and the Trafford Centre is a 15 minute drive from the University.

Culture and sport

From dinosaurs to music Manchester and Salford is brimming with cultural venues.  Many of the museums and galleries are free including the Manchester Art Gallery and The Lowry arts centre.  As an area known for its music, the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra is Salford’s resident orchestra, it will come as no surprise that there are many places to visit to sit back and listen; from the small and intimate venues such as Band on the Wall to the larger scale venues of The Bridgewater Hall and Manchester Evening News Arena.  

Sport plays an important role in the region city especially being home to two Premiership football clubs, Manchester City and Manchester UnitedThe National Cycling Centre and Aquatics Centre are also based in the city of Manchester.

Outdoors

Some of the most beautiful countryside in Britain is within easy reach of Salford. The Peak District, Yorkshire Dales, Lake District and sandy beaches and mountains of North Wales are all less than two hours away by road.
