Culture Secretary to open major media conference in Salford
Organised by the University of Salford and now in its 19th year, the popular, high profile conference has also secured keynote speakers Adam Crozier, ITV Chief Executive, Director of BBC Vision George Entwistle, and Diane Coyle, Vice Chairman of the BBC Trust.
The two-day event, which is expected to draw hundreds of delegates from across the UK, will be held in several venues at Salford Quays, including the University’s new digital teaching, learning and research space at MediaCityUK, The Lowry, and the BBC Philharmonic studio. It will focus on key policy issues, production and opportunity across the UK’s media industries while celebrating the talents and achievements of the industry in the nations and regions.
Professor Erik Knudsen, Head of School of Media, Music & Performance at the University of Salford, said: “In the year when MediaCityUK is fully up and running, and when we’ve opened our fantastic new building on the site, there’s clearly much to celebrate. We’re delighted that the Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport has agreed to make the opening speech in what will be a pivotal year for the media at local, regional and national level.”
Katy Boulton, Creative Director of the conference, said: “The Nations & Regions Media Conference remains unique in a sea of media events. We debate the big policy matters of the day and explore creativity and content across TV, radio and online. But crucially, the Nations and Regions theme runs through us like a stick of rock, giving us a unique focus and selling point.”
Booking for the Nations & Regions Media Conference is now open and the event is offering Early Bird rates (ranging from just £40 to £199) to delegates for a limited period – register online at www.nationsandregionsmedia.org.
