Terms and Conditions

1. Entry criteria

  1. The competition is open to all potential students who hold the equivalent of a UK 1st class Honours degree and have a minimum of three years of management experience.
  2. All students must have an excellent command of the English language. International students must have a Test of Secure English, normally an IELTS 6.5 overall with no element below 5.5.
  3. For international students the successful candidate must be entitled to a UK Study Visa allowing them to study in the UK in 2012/13. For UK or EU students the visa condition does not apply.
  4. In relation to the modular programme, students must be available and able to arrive in the UK for study a minimum of one week before the course start date. Any late arrivals will not be entitled to stay in the UK as they will be unable to study.
  5. People currently employed by the University of Salford, Salford Business School, Communications Management or media partners for the competition will not be eligible to enter.
  6. If a potential entrant has already been awarded a place on the Salford Business School MBA programme for 2012/13, they will still able to enter the competition by submitting an essay in addition to your existing application. Please email this to l.massey@salford.ac.uk

2. Conduct of the competition

  1. The competition runs until midday (12 noon) GMT on Friday 22 June for international entries (to allow sufficient time for visa applications for the winners). The closing date for the competition for UK and EU students has been extended to midnight on Tuesday 31 July 2012. Entries submitted after these dates and times will not be considered.
  2. All entrants must complete an application to study the MBA at the school and must attach proof of qualifications in the form of a final degree award certificate, transcripts of their study and two references, one of which must be from their current employer.
  3. In addition entrants must, in addition to their personal statement, include in that section of the application form a 500-word essay on the topic: All entries must be original work and the University of Salford and Salford Business School reserves the right to check for plagiarism and to disqualify any work which appears not to be original.
  4. The shortlisted and winning entries will be selected by Salford Business School staff, led by the Dean. Entries will be marked according to marking criteria provided upon application.
  5. Shortlisted entrants will be invited to an interview using Skype or on the telephone, following which the winners will be selected.
  6. International winners will be notified by midday (12 noon) GMT on Friday 13 July 2012. UK winners will be notified by midday (12 noon) GMT on Tuesday 21 August.
  7. No correspondence will be entered into about the judges’ decisions.

3. Winners

  1. Each of four winning students will receive a prize of a Global Leadership Scholarship (worth £16,120) to join the Salford Business School MBA programme in 2012/13.
  2. The scholarships cover tuition fees only and there is no provision for travel, living or other expenses.
  3. No alternative prize, including cash, will be offered.
  4. The scholarships cannot be used in conjunction with or in addition to any other University of Salford scholarship or bursary.
  5. The Scholarship cannot be deferred or transferred to another academic year or alternative course.
  6. The winner(s) can choose either to join the full-time programme which has three entry points – September 2012, January 2013 or June 2013 - or the modular programme. Students must be able to commence their studies at one of the entry points.

4. Use of information

  1. All entrants agree automatically to be added to the Salford Business School emailing list which will entitle them to receive communications from the University of Salford during and after the competition.
  2. By submitting an entry to the competition, entrants are agreeing to allow the University of Salford and Salford Business School to use their essay material as part of their online and offline communications as they feel is appropriate.
  3. The University of Salford and Salford Business School will not share  personal details of entrants on a commercial basis with any third parties.
