Biography

I am a solicitor, building surveyor and accredited commercial mediator. I lead the University’s professional doctorate in the built environment which provides a part-time route for property and construction professionals to study for a doctorate. I am the editor of the International Journal of Law in the Built Environment and director of the international CIB Law and Dispute Resolution Working Commission. His publications include The Party Wall Casebook, the bestselling student textbook, Law and the Built Environment and a number of award-winning peer-reviewed articles on the role of expert evidence in rights to light litigation. I serve on the editorial boards of Structural Survey journal and the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Journal of Legal Affairs and Dispute Resolution in Engineering and Construction. I have personally supervised a number of successful doctoral research projects in the law relating to property and construction and welcomes enquiries from potential doctoral candidates in these areas.
