Biography

Nova has over 20 years’ experience in the built environment ranging from practical trade skills to building control, project management, contract administration, commercial surveying, energy and BREEAM. As a chartered surveyor Nova represented a number of key clients including Goodman UK Logistics, ING Real Estate, Wolseley UK, United Utilities, Allied London Properties, Kings Chambers, EHRC, MOSI, Welsh Assembly Government, MOD and Argent. In practice Nova specialised in the area of sustainability in property and was responsible for developing an arm of the business providing advice on BREEAM/BREEAM In-Use, SWMPs; procure EPC/DECs on behalf of the client; produce design guides for business park developments etc...

 

Nova also took up a role in industry as head of learning and development with two of the UK’ leading warranty providers where she introduced the RICS structured training plan and was responsible for recruiting and training graduates on to this scheme. Nova was also responsible for leading a number of longitudinal initiatives from strategy to delivery including; Management & Leadership development through changing behaviours via; theory, company research, training, coaching, and policy; Employee Engagement by addressing management, employee development pathways, training/gap analysis, reward/recognition systems, recruitment, talent management, and succession planning; Customer Excellence through mapping the customer journey from end to end with the development of an OMI (Operational Measurement Index) ensuring year on year improvement; Develop a strategy across the company to provide the necessary infrastructure to accommodate an RICS structured training scheme (for a Building Control pathway) for newly appointed graduates.

Teaching

Programme Leader for MSc Building Surveying. Currently teaching on both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes including property studies, Technology 2 and buildings in use. Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations, provides a personal tutor role for L5 building surveyors and is the degree apprenticeship link tutor for building surveying undergraduate students. In addition to I am also in the process of setting up a hub of property companies to offer summer placements and industry mentors to our postgraduate BS students.

Currently undertaking a PhD, and working towards IE, in BREEAM and occupant behaviour and has published in this area.
