Biography

I have contributed to the development of Built Environment education with enthusiasm and effectiveness, at a regional, national and international level.  I have substantial experience in designing and teaching professionally accredited Built Environment courses in Higher Education and been pivotal in driving forward new developments at the discipline and industry.

My personal philosophy demonstrates that both industry and HE have something to contribute to the learning experience and each stands to gain through the contribution of the other.  Having built a career on a strong track record and commitment I have developed networks of HEIs and FE colleges and have been extremely successful in brokering links between the major industry agencies, professional institutions and educational establishments.  I am currently Chair, Construction Industry Council, NW Region and Vice Chair, ConstructionSkills, ‘Standards and Qualifications Strategic Committee’.

I see myself as an advocate for promoting and disseminating good practice and supporting built environment academics in maintaining and enhancing the quality and effectiveness of their teaching.    I have a track record of successfully leading on numerous built environment education projects with funding bodies.

Teaching

Final Year Undergraduate programmes; Discipline Research Project Supervision.

Postgraduate Programmes; MSc Research Phase Supervision.

MSc Construction Management; Project and Production Management module (30 credits). It is delivered both via workshops but also remotely using synchronous online lectures and so is a good example of a ‘blended learning’ approach.

Programme leader (2007-2012). I led the development of a new employer-led, blended learning, online masters level programme.  It received Skills & Education Award (nominated by Balfour Beatty), PGDip/MSc in Construction Management, North West Regional Construction Awards (2009).
