SURFACE researcher Rachel Russell

SURFACE researcher, Rachel Russell, is currently in Japan for the 16th International Congress of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists. 

Rachel, who is currently completing an EPSRC-sponsored PhD with SURFACE, has presented a paper at the conference on ‘putting Occupation back into housing modifications’.

Having qualified as an occupational therapist in 1994, Rachel specialises in community care practice and the use of housing modifications to support the health and wellbeing of individuals. An MSc graduate of the SURFACE Accessibility and Inclusive Design course with Distinction, her specialist interest lies in understanding user requirements for housing modification and assistive technology/devices.

The International Congress of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists runs from 18 - 21 June 2014 in Yokohama, Japan. In collaboration with the 48th Japanese Occupational Therapy Congress and Expo, it is co-hosted by the Japanese Association of Occupational Therapists (JAOT) and the Science Council of Japan.
