SURFACE - Inclusive Design Research Centre

SURFACE co-hosts international study group

Tuesday 19 February 2013

In collaboration with Transport for Greater Manchester, SURFACE has co-hosted a multi-disciplinary study group from the Universities of Manitoba and Costa Rica.

The delegation of 11 visitors came from various research backgrounds related to travel and transportation, including road safety and traffic management, active travel (pedestrian and cyclist accommodation), transportation planning and inclusive (universal) design.

Interactive and site-based, the visit was a chance to learn from Manchester’s experiences in creating an accessible pedestrian environment and integrated public transport network. A Q&A session was led by Dr Jon Lamonte, TfGM Chief Executive Officer, and walkabouts took in a number of key locations and travel modes, including the Metroshuttle bus service, Metrolink light rail system and Piccadilly Cycle Hub.
