Dr.Bingu Ingirige, addresses the European Forum for Urban Security (EFUS) 2012 conference in Brussels

Dr. Bingu Ingirige, a member of the centre recently addressed the European Forum for Urban Security (EFUS) conference held in Brussels on the 13th and 14th of December 2012.

He addressed the Urban Risk Management session organised in conjunction with the United Nations office of Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR). He delivered a talk on the importance of improving resilience of businesses as a major component of urban disaster risk reduction.

He also introduced the important role the Centre for Disaster Resilience at the University of Salford performs in disaster risk reduction both in the developing as well as developed countries and how its research aligns with UNISDR’s resilient cities programme.

He participated in a panel discussion with city planners, Municipal representatives, and civil protection authorities who lead urban security and safety programmes in Europe and other parts of the world.

The conference was well attended and conducted in many languages and was open to several policy makers, practitioners and researchers.
