Research Centre for Construction and Property Management and Economics (CCPME)
The Research Centre for Construction and Property Management and Economics (CCPME) promotes research in construction management at strategic, tactical and operational levels from local, national and international perspectives. The activities of the centre are underpinned by both theory and practice. In addition to promoting a community of practice, the Centre also networks internationally with different stakeholder communities (individuals, organisations, policy makers and government bodies).

Projects
Construction and Black and Minority Ethnics (BME)
The Construction and BME project aims to identify the causes of a lack of black and minority ethnics in construction in the North West including labour market discrimination and exclusion they face.
This project intends to:
- Promote the integration of groups, at a disadvantage in the labour market, by promoting equal opportunities for all, through social inclusion
- Combat discrimination against people, at a disadvantage in the labour market, by promoting equal opportunities for all, through social inclusion
- Address the need to provide help to improve employability, and remove barriers to labour market entry, for those groups disadvantaged in the labour market, including economically inactive people of working age
- Develop local responses to assist individuals with multiple disadvantages who would otherwise face the risk of risk of social exclusion from the labour market.
The project aims to identify the main barriers to employment and any discrimination faced by BME groups.
This research project will therefore:
- Look into the background reasons for BME group under representation in construction with a view to identifying barriers faced by BME groups in the labour market
- Explore BME group perceptions and experiences of the construction sector
- Assess recent UK government initiatives and their impact in combating race discrimination in the labour market
- Examine the reasons why many BME groups work in other sectors such as the leisure sector (e.g.hotels and restaurants)
- Provide recommendations and good practice guidelines to aid the recruitment and retention of BME groups in the construction sector
- Make recommendations aimed at combating institutional race discrimination.
Revaluing Construction
This project aims to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date guide to the many initiatives and programmes around the world that are seeking to change and improve the performance of the construction industry.
The SOBE Research Institute is undertaking this on behalf of the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB), the leading international network for innovation in construction.
Sustained Competitiveness in the UK Construction sector
This project aims to provide insights to policy makers to assist in the development of future policies that will contribute towards the sustained competitiveness of the UK construction sector.
