Peter Rebbeck's experience in the construction industry spans more that 30 years. During this period he has also gained considerable knowledge of the information technology business. He has been involved in airport development construction projects not only in the UK but also in Europe and the Far-East.
In the 1970's Rebbeck was one of a group of pioneers making use of computer technology in the construction industry working on UK Government projects. This required him developing an ability to adapt and adopt learning from other industries and to then apply them in the construction industry.
In the 1980's Rebbeck played a key internal consultancy role in technology advance and innovation for major projects. This resulted in helping the wider construction industry to better understand the potential benefits from applying these technologies.
In the late 1970's and early 1980's Rebbeck demonstrated his thirst for knowledge by becoming involved more in the computer industry by taking on computer system and project manager roles. He then took this knowledge to apply back into the construction industry.
During the late 1980's & early 1990's Rebbeck came involved in the early work of various industry bodies such as Construct-IT, International Alliance on Interoperabiltiy (IAI), Construction Industry Computing Association)(CICA) etc. His continuing focus was on the desire not only to improve and challenge his own learning but also to pass this onto others.
He was a key part of the team that set up BAA's "Continuous Improvement of the Production Process (CIPP) initiative that formed the basis for Sir John Eagan's seminal publication "Re-Thinking Construction" in 1998. His subsequent work on facilitating and delivering the benefits of process mapping and business re-engineering within BAA has been well recognised. At the same time Rebbeck was instrumental in ensuring BAA's involvement and support for the aims and aspirations of Construct-IT.
Recognising the need for major clients to become more involved and informed in the construction industry, Rebbeck played a major role in setting up the UK chapter of the IAI and the major client's group of the CICA.
Demonstrating his focus on learning throughout his career to date, Rebbeck was sponsored by BAA to undertake management studies which culminated in the awards of the Diploma in Management Studies followed by Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 2000.
Rebbeck has therefore a proven record on not only developing his own learning in both the construction and the information technology industries but also to be a catalyst for similar learning for others at all working levels.
He has proven experience to provide policy advice and to provide potential new directions, as well as brokering new relationships with industry to actively tackle future needs, especially in the field of construction information technology.
