Ken Millbanks qualified as a Chartered Building Surveyor in 1985 and set up his own surveying practice in 1986. His corporate career commenced with Dixons Stores Group in 1991 where he held the positions of Estate Director and Construction & Development Director. During this period Dixons, Currys and PC World went through major expansion and re-development with spending in excess of £100m pa. During his time with Dixons Ken undertook a Retail MBA at Stirling University, being awarded a distinction.
He moved to Bass Plc (renamed Six Continents) in 1996, within the Retail division (i.e. pubs and restaurants) as Director of Construction. In the last year of employment in Retail, the department spend was in excess of 300 million pounds on the conversion of the Allied Estate to Bass branded outlets.
In 2001, Ken moved to the Hotels division of Six Continents within the Europe, Middle East and Africa Division where he is Senior Vice President of Property. The main challenges are the upgrade of the Holiday Inn UK chain over the next 4 years and the major refurbishment and new build hotel projects ranging from 0.5 million pounds to 100 million pounds, located across Europe.
