What are Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP)?

If your company has a project of strategic importance and /or would like to benefit from financial support to undertake R&D activity, then the KTP programme could be the answer!

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships are designed to help companies of all sizes to make strategic advances in their field. Through these partnerships, your company can take full advantage of the wealth of technical, scientific and managerial expertise available in the University of Salford.

An expert from the University of Salford will be assigned to assist with your project and a highly skilled graduate known as a KTP associate will be recruited to manage the project on a day-to-day basis.

With up to 67% government funding, your company could use this knowledge to support strategic projects of a 1-3 year duration.

Our current KTP schemes

Retrofit for social housing

TerraceSalford Centre for Research & Innovation (SCRI) have recently been awarded a 264,000 GBP Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with industry partners Fusion 21. Fusion21 is a social business which promotes collaboration to save money and create jobs. Fusion21's supply chains deliver their Clients' capital and cyclical works programmes, create sustainable jobs for local people and generate cashable savings to reinvest in frontline service improvements.

The award will look at both technical and social aspects of implementing sustainable retrofit to social housing. Housing accounts for approximately 26% of the UKs carbon emissions, and many of the homes we will be using in 2050 have already been built. This means we must look to improving the performance of our current stock. In addition, some 21% of social housing residents are said to be living in fuel poverty, so improving the efficiency of their homes, making them cheaper to run can make real in-roads in addressing this problem. The study will have 2 KTP Associates looking at the two distinct aspects of the study.

The academic team are Dr. Will Swan, Dr. Stephen Todd, Dr. Angela Lee and Prof. Erik Bichard. Bill Taylor from Fusion 21 will lead the project from the company side.
