Academic discusses disaster risk reduction at urban security conference

Dr Bingu Ingirige, from the School of the Built Environment, was invited to speak at the European Forum for Urban Security (EFUS) conference in Brussels last month.

His talk focused on the importance of improving the resilience of business as a major component of urban disaster risk reduction and introduced the key role performed by the University’s Centre of Disaster Resilience in disaster risk reduction.

During the conference, Bingu addressed the Urban Risk Management session, organised in conjunction with the United Nations office of Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR). He also took part in a panel discussion with city planners, municipal representatives and civil protection authorities who lead urban security and safety programmes in Europe and around the world.
