University plays host to international conference for built environment postgraduate students
Earlier this month The University of Salford’s School of Built Environment hosted its 11th International Postgraduate Research Conference at the University’s MediaCityUK campus – targeting academics and researchers studying within the built environment discipline.
Over 100 delegates attended the three-day event from the UK, Ireland, Nigeria, Brazil, Iraq, Libya, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Russia, Egypt and the USA.
The conference was designed to offer the delegates academic, networking and social opportunities. Attendees were also invited to attend workshops which discussed research issues and challenges which postgraduate students might face.
Coinciding with the event, a conference dinner was held at Manchester’s Midland Hotel in honour of the visiting delegates, who were asked to appear in their country’s traditional dress.
Eccles and Salford MP, Hazel Blears, attended the night as a guest speaker, applauding the work by the School to engage communities around the world through its research activity. She also recognised the high number of women researchers who attended.
The conference Chair and Director of Postgraduate Research Studies, Professor Vian Ahmed, said: “This conference brought together knowledge and culture, giving the School the opportunity to celebrate the diverse nature of its international student population.”
