Salford to deliver global project management courses alongside RICS
Newly-formed Salford Professional Development has signed a major international contract offering project management programmes in liaison with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
The company, set up by the University of Salford six months ago, offers cutting-edge training and professional development backed by the University’s academic excellence and top-class facilities.
The RICS contract will deliver global specialist distance-learning courses in project management in construction. Originally developed jointly with RICS for the Indian market, the programme will now also be available online to professionals across the world.
Led by Professor Mohammed Arif, Professor of Sustainability and Process Management at the University’s School of the Built Environment and International Director for the College of Science and Technology, the course builds on 18 months of work with RICS and its members in India and will be available from February 2013.
“There is a large body of knowledge and expertise in academia, and professional bodies such as RICS with their vast membership of working professionals can benefit from that. With the growing popularity of web-based platforms, we as academics have at our disposal extremely potent tools that can be used for this knowledge transfer,” said Professor Arif.
“Working together with RICS on this project has enabled us to build a bridge between academic and professional practice in order to improve skills and performance in the workplace and share these improvements internationally.”
Professor Arif has more than 16 years of experience in project management and construction, including international research in the fields of pre-fabricated and low-cost housing and experience of large-scale project management.
Pierpaolo Franco, RICS Global Director of Training said: “We are delighted to be working with Salford Professional Development in the design, development and delivery of this project management course. It is an exciting opportunity for blending academic and professional knowledge in one course for the good of the profession on a global basis.
“The key to our proposition is that as a setter of global standards we are able to deliver training like project management in construction that adheres to those standards and then tailor course content to meet local needs. This means that what we are delivering in India is going to be replicated in other markets.”
