Asia-Pacific’s contribution to the post-2015 Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA2) for Disaster Risk Reduction

At the request of the UN General Assembly, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) has consulted with countries and organizations on what the successor of the HFA and how  the post-2015 framework for DRR or HFA2, should look like. In providing substantive direction from an Asia Pacific perspective to the HFA2 formulation, in-depth consultations were held on 7 key areas that were identified. The consultation outcome documents will be presented at the upcoming 6th Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in June 2014.

Centre for Disaster Resilience (CDR) has been invited by UNISDR Asia Pacific Office to provide expert input to HFA2 key theme titled “Women as a force in resilience building, gender equity in DRR”.

Madhavi Malalgoda Ariyabandu from UNISDR commented: “Critical review and inputs from the Centre for Disaster Resilience will help to ensure that the analysis is reflective of the current perspectives and experiences in this area and that the recommendations capture the most relevant priorities and actions for the region”.

Dr Udyangangani Kulatunga and Professor Dilanthi Amaratunga will lead this initiative representing the CDR.
