Ever wondered how the BBC managed to bring dinosaurs to life on your TV screen? Our special talk was just one highlight from a number sessions. A timetable of talks were given by the BBC and our own teaching staff on a range of topics throughout the day. Visitors got a sneak preview of our brand new lecture theatres and teaching spaces which are not usually open to the public.

Ars Electronica 3D film - 3 different show pieces on a continuous loop

Apparition/Peony Pavilion/Le Sacre are stunning dance, light and digital projection performances by world renowned Ars Electronica, shown here in 3D. Special glasses are available to watch this performance.

An introduction to creative writing - Ursula Hurley

In this brief, interactive session, The University of Salford lecturer will look at what a creative writing course involves and where it can lead in terms of career development.

Get your scriptwriting noticed - Jennifer Tuckett

The University of Salford Creative Writing lecturer discusses the new opportunities available to budding script writers based in the North West and MediaCityUK.

Getting in to television and radio - Annabelle Waller

Former BBC TV Producer and Director Annabelle Waller will be talking about her experiences of working on hit TV shows and giving advice about getting into the industry.

Making of Planet Dinosaur - Sue Rand

Sue explains how she and her colleagues at Jellyfish Pictures helped bring the BBC’s dinosaurs to life, and the challenges they faced when making a programme entirely constructed in CGI (computer generated imagery).

MediaCityUK: Past, present and future - Lisa Hill

The Communications Manager at MediaCityUK explains the past, present and future of the £650 million pound site (phase 1) – home to the BBC, ITV, University of Salford and many others.

3.50pm–4.10pm
Technical careers in the media - Laurence Murphy

The University of Salford lecturer discusses how to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for a broad range of careers in the media industry.

4.40pm–5.00pm
Getting in to online media - Byron Evans

The founder of Wallop Video will discuss the skills needed to create commercial content for the web.
