Association of University Administrators

AUA

Welcome to the Salford branch of the Association of University Administrators (AUA), the professional association for administrators, managers and professional services staff in higher education. It exists to help you develop yourself and your career, and to recognise and promote the development of all who work in higher education administration.

Salford has a growing branch comprised of members across various areas of the University and representing a broad range of grades.

We have a team of coordinators who are working to support Salford members (see our Who's Who page), organise local events and connecting with colleagues in the wider national network. The AUA at Salford is fully supported by senior management. The Registrar is also a Fellow of the AUA.

Key Coaching techniques. Presented by Howard Barringer.

Coaching was once a skill only for structured and organised development, conducted by a few trained individuals. Today having the ability to deploy coaching skills in any work-based situation is a core competency for the masses. In this workshop we'll look at some of the basics of taking a coaching approach and how they can be applied in everyday interactions.

  • What is coaching - how does it differ from mentoring or managing?
  • Core qualities of an effective coach - 8 qualities that an effective coach possesses or displays
  • Questioning and listening skills - the main tools in the coaches arsenal
  • Coaching models - GROW, OSCAR etc.

Any suggestions for future topics welcomed.

The Salford AUA Advocate Team was awarded ‘Highly Commended’ in the Professional Services Recognition Awards 2015-16 at the University Day on 8 June 2016.
