Facilities for hands-on learning
Building on our academic and professional resources, our students also benefit from a host of industry standard facilities across our main campus and MediaCityUK. Existing facilities include extensive art and design workshops, photographic studios, music rehearsal and recording studios, performance and dance studios, 2 theatres, TV and radios studios, fashion and garment construction studios and print making facilities.
The £55m New Adelphi building opened on our Peel Park campus in September 2016, to offer a new home for the School of Arts & Media and a focus for creativity, arts and culture on campus.
This pioneering new facility features a 350 capacity theatre, 2 large TV acting studios, rehearsal studios, 6 industry standard recording studios, 12 amplified performance studios, 14 instrumental tuition rooms, a 100sqm band-room/live room and a suite of flexible performance spaces with an adjoining roof terrace.
For art and design subjects, there are over 600 square metres of specialist workshops, including traditional model-making facilities, advanced CNC machines and a dedicated printing lab with specilist equipment such as screen printers, lithotables, fabric printers, etching presses and felt looms. There are also fully equipped photography studios, a dark room and the New Adlephi gallery for formal exhibitions.
Salford is also the only University with a campus at MediaCityUK: a unique state-of-the-art facility, home to one of the largest communities of creative media professionals in Europe. The University campus at MediaCityUK features two industry standard HD TV studios including a green screen and two radio studios, which are capable of being linked to every other audio room in the building, facilitating outside sources such as live bands performing within the TV studios.
Other facilities include an industry standard newsroom, digital audio workstations, craft edit and video editing suits,10 interactive touch tables, our spectacular Christie Micro-tile wall made up of 120 digital screens which are perfect for exhibiting your work in high definition and the Digital Performance Lab – an experimental performance/lecture space featuring one of largest HD screens in Europe.
