Contemporary Military and International History

The international historians at Salford are all scholars with international reputations for the high quality and the extensive range of their research, which explores the foreign relations of Britain, the United States, and the countries of Europe and the Far East from the early nineteenth century to the present. Our research enhances the learning experiences of our students, as we are able to provide cutting-edge perspectives on many important issues.

A number of the international historians also play prominent roles in the operation of the professional associations that relate to research and teaching in this area of history, notably the British International History Group, the British International Studies Association, the International Studies Association, the Association Internationale d'Histoire Comtemporaine de l'Europe, the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relationsand the Transatlantic Studies Association.

We also have editorial and publishing links with many of the key journals in the field, especially the International History Review, Diplomacy and Statecraft and the Journal of Transatlantic Studies.
