Art and Design

Art and design covers a wide range of disciplines ranging from computer and video games, digital media, fashion and product innovation to visual arts, photography, interior design and animation.

Students benefit from expert tutors who are all experienced professionals, many of whom remain active in the fields in which they teach and have links with some of the biggest players in the design industry. We welcome guest speakers from across the world of art and design to give students cutting edge advice and insight. Speakers in the past have included sculptor Rob Williams, illustrator Si Scott and fashion design house, Max Mara.

The School boasts an award-winning Fashion department, who have won the British Fashion Council’s Best Portfolio Award in 2010, 2011 and 2013. We have also had a number of student winners in industry competitions such as D&AD, YCN and the Roses Awards.

All students are encouraged to undertake work placements whilst at Salford. Past students have secured placements at Vogue, McCann Erickson, Barclays, Cartoon Network, Alexander McQueen, Dazed and Confused and the BBC. Students also get the opportunity to showcase their work at professional events in London such as Graduate Fashion Week, Free Range and New Designers, as well as exhibitions in Manchester and the annual Create at Salford Festival at MediaCityUK.
