The School of Arts & Media covers a vast range of disciplines ranging from graphic design, creative media, fashion and performance to visual arts, photography, product and interior design, music, creative education, journalism, TV and radio and design management. The University is also one of only 19 UK universities to gain Skillset Media Academy status, defining it as a centre for excellence for media education.
Students benefit from expert tutors who are all experienced professionals, many of whom remain active in the fields in which they teach and have links with some of the biggest players in the creative industries. We welcome guest speakers from across the creative sector to give students cutting edge advice and insight. Recent speakers have included sculptor Rob Williams, comedians Peter Kay and Jason Manford, illustrator Si Scott, BBC Newsnight presenter Kirsty Wark, and fashion designer Justin Oh.
All students are encouraged to undertake work placements and practice-based industry briefs and projects whilst at Salford. Past students have secured placements at Vogue, Love Creative, Adobe, Cartoon Network, Viktor & Rolf, GQ Magazine, Hewlett Packard, ITV, Arts Council England, Mainframe and the BBC.
Students also get the opportunity to showcase their work at professional events in London such as Graduate Fashion Week, Free Range and New Designers, as well as exhibitions in Manchester and the annual Arts and Media Festival at MediaCityUK.
