CBBC Presenter, CBeebies Radio Researcher
After graduating Salford University with a 2:1, Katie enrolled on a 12 month part-time NCTJ multi-media journalism course at News Associates in Manchester, and trained as a journalist part-time whilst working in an IT department for the NHS. Simultaneously, Katie volunteered at various radio stations, including Tameside Radio and North Manchester FM, producing and presenting her own shows, writing and reading the news. Katie then applied for work experience with the BBC online and completed a 3 week placement with BBC Radio Drama, before going on to secure short-term contracts as a Production Management Assistant with BBC Radio 4. She then followed that with a job at MediaCity, as a PA to the Controllers of CBBC and CBeebies, before starting as a Researcher on CBeebies and being invited to do to a presenting screentest, which led to her being offered presenting work with CBBC.
"I loved my time at Salford University, and enjoyed writing for the Salford Direct, which helped me to build up a portfolio of writing work which helped me apply for future work experience placements, college courses and jobs. The English and Creative Writing course was nicely varied, and I have fond memories of the Old Pint Pot pub!"
